The 5 L’s

Often, as a teacher, you hear about the 5 w’s: who, what, where, when, why (and the how that gets thrown in there).  But today, I’d like to talk about the 5 L’s: live, laugh, love, linger, link.

Live. The most important.  Don’t forget about everything that is happening and to really invest yourself in everything that you do.  Don’t just breeze by things.  Don’t just go through the motions.  Feel everything.  Embrace everything.  Appreciate the little things.

Laugh. What I would definitely consider the second most important.  Laughter really is the best medicine.  And without it, life wouldn’t be worth living.  Laugh at the big things.  Laugh at the little things.  Laugh at the appropriate things, the appropriate times.  Don’t laugh at inappropriate times, and these come about sometimes.  But be sure to laugh.  Big laughs.  Little laughs.  Chuckles.  Giggles.  Appropriate medicine to heal the soul.

Love. Equally important as the previous two.  Possibly the one that makes the biggest difference.  Love fiercely.  Love as much as you can.  Don’t be afraid of love.  Don’t let love break you down.  Let love heal you and make you the person that you are supposed to be.  Give love to the people that need it most.  Accept love from the people who have more to give than they know what to do with.

Linger. Don’t let things pass you by.  Stop to smell the roses.  Don’t take the small things for granted.  I’m not saying to be lazy (another l word).  I am saying to allow yourself time to appreciate those little things that I talked about during life.  Let the joy linger longer than it should.  Let the grief linger a moment shorter than you want to hold on.

Link. Without relationships, linking up with people, life would not be the life that we want it to be.  Link up with old friends.  Stay linked with best friends.  Avoid links with people that aren’t healthy for you.  Link with as many people as possible.  People who can help you.  People who can heal you.  People that will shape you.  These links can save you.

These five l’s are so influential.  They can shape the life that you lead.  They can help you lead a better life.  They can be the make it so that you are able to do everything you want to do.

What do you think of my 5 l’s?  Do you agree with them?  Would you take away or add anything to them?
